Norton® Arkansas Stones are a natural abrasive stone made of Novaculite, white to black in color often having a range of shades in a single stone. They are fantastic all-purpose stones ideal for polishing and sharpening and come in two different hardness:
Soft Arkansas (extra-fine 400-600 grit), the coarsest-grained and least dense of the natural abrasive stones, is ideal for getting an even polished surface on knife edges and gouges after prior sharpening with synthetic stones such as India or Crystolon.
Hard Arkansas (ultra-fine 800-900 grit), has a very dense construction and is recommended for stoning where the sharpest edges are required. Unsurpassed for honing and maintaining the extremely fine, super-smooth edges on precision tools and instruments.
Using Arkansas Stones with oil enhances the sharpening action and minimizes clogging of the stones' surface, we recommend Norton® Stoning Oil for the best results.
